Core Practice and Study

These regular programs form the foundation of our spiritual community:

Foundational Meditation (Shamatha & Vipashyana):
Clear, simple instructions for calming the mind and developing insight, accessible to both beginners and experienced practitioners.

Systematic Dharma Teachings:
Ongoing classes and retreats on essential Buddhist philosophy, including the Three Principles (Renunciation, Bodhicitta, and View), Karma, and the foundational texts of the tradition.

The Fivefold Path of Mahamudra:
Practical, Time-Appropriate Retreats and specialized instruction in this central, profound meditation system of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, guiding serious students toward realization.

Teachings in English:
All instructions and teachings are provided directly in English, ensuring immediate understanding and accessibility for Western students.

🗓 Saturday – Introduction to Buddhist Practices (Beginner’s Class)

Time: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
A weekly foundational class exploring the basics of Buddhist thought and meditation, suitable for newcomers and long-time practitioners alike.

🗓 Sunday – The Jewel Ornament of Liberation (Stages of the Path: Buddha Nature)

Time: 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM
An in-depth textual study of Gampopa’s classic, continuing weekly by chapter.

🗓 Thursday Rotating Practices – 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM

  • Medicine Buddha Practice and Meditation
  • Chenrezig (Compassion Buddha) Practice and Meditation
  • Noble Tara Practice and Meditation

These practices rotate weekly and continue through the season.

Guidance for Ordained Sangha

Reflecting his scholarly role as a Khenpo and his background as an Abbott, Khenpo Choephel offers unique support for Buddhist Monastics:

Vinaya & Samaya Instruction: 
Essential guidance and teachings on maintaining the monastic discipline (Vinaya) and upholding the sacred commitments (Samayas) for those who have taken ordination vows.

In keeping with the Drikung Kagyu tradition, Khenpo Choephel offers a range of ceremonies to support the community’s spiritual well-being:
Life Ceremonies:
Support and prayers for major life events such as weddings/commitment ceremonies, and end-of-life transitions.
Blessings and Dedications:
Offering traditional blessings for new homes, businesses, and personal endeavors.
Traditional Ritual Practices (Pujas):
Leading community practices, such as Green Tara or Purification Pujas, for compassion, healing, and merit accumulation.

One-on-one sessions to provide personalized, Dharma-based guidance for navigating life’s challenges.

Special Observances

🌕 The Eight Mahayana Precepts (Full Moon Day)

Observed on Full Moon Days. Practitioners take one-day vows to cultivate mindfulness, compassion, and renunciation.
